SARAVANAN MUTHUPANDIAN

Dr. Saravanan Muthupandian has over 21 years of Research and Teaching experience & Presently working as a Professor in the Department of Medical Laboratory Technology and Prince Fahad bin Sultan Chair for Biomedical Research at the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, University of Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. He completed his Bachelor’s and Master degree in Microbiology from Madurai Kamaraj University, India, and obtained his Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology with specialization in Nanomedicine from Sathyabama University, India. He later done his Postdoctoral Research at the Institute for Drug Research (2011-2012), where his research focused on the development of novel biomaterials Combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and cancer therapeutics. Prior to joining the University of Tabuk, he served in Professor and Associate professor in several academic institutions, including Mekelle University, Ethiopia, SRM University, India, and Saveetha University, India. His research interests focus on Nanobiomedicine, antimicrobial nanomaterials, drug delivery systems, Natural products, and translational biomedical research, with emphasis on developing innovative therapeutic strategies for infectious diseases and cancer.
Dr. Saravanan Muthupandian has led more than Seven funded national and international research projects with total funding exceeding ₹1 million (USD). He has published over 350 research papers in reputed international journals such as The Lancet, Nature Medicine, Journal of Nanobiotechnology, Nanomedicine, Scientific Reports, and Frontiers in Pharmacology etc.. His work has received over 77,000 citations with an h-index of 90 and an i10-index of 243. He has authored 11 textbooks and thirty-five book chapters, and has delivered invited talks at over 100 national and international conferences. Dr. Muthupandian serves as Associate Editor for Frontiers in Pharmacology, Frontiers in Oncology, MDPI Functional Biomaterials, and Medicina, and as a reviewer for more than 100 international journals. His research has led to five granted patents, including a bacterially synthesized nanocomposite cream for chronic wound treatment and a device for early detection of subclinical mastitis.
Dr. Saravanan Muthupandian has made significant research contributions that have earned him several prestigious national and international recognitions. He has been ranked among the World’s Top 2% Scientists in the Clinical Medicine category by Stanford University, USA, for six consecutive years (2020–2025). He received the Tamil Nadu Scientist Award -2023 (TANSA-2023) in the Medical Sciences category during his tenure in India and the IET Nanobiotechnology Premium Award, sponsored by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), UK, for two consecutive years (2019 and 2020). He has also been awarded several international fellowships, including participation in the Advanced Course on Antibiotics (AdCAb) organized and sponsored by the Institut Pasteur and Fondation Mérieux, France (2016); the WHO International Meeting on “Pertussis: Biology, Epidemiology and Prevention”, France (2015); and the Fourth Advanced Course on Diagnostics, jointly organized by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and Fondation Mérieux (2013). Earlier in his career, he received the DST Young Scientist Award (2012) and the DST Young Scientist International Travel Fellowship (2009) from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India.
