Extraction of uranium for nuclear activities from waste reverse osmosis desalination plants using ion-imprinted polymers | Currently, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, national plans are being developed and implemented to enable nuclear energy to contribute to the national energy sources to meet the requirements of national development and to make nuclear energy part of the energy system to ensure that the Kingdom remains a pioneer and effective in the field of energy within the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 Therefore, new sources must be explored for nuclear fuel One of the potential sources of nuclear energy is the extraction of uranium from seawater Uranium is present in a higher concentration in the brine solution (water sewage) in desalination plants resulting from desalination Water desalination plants in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia produce about 4 billion cubic meters of brine water annually In this project, the extraction of uranium in the local solution will be investigated in the desalination plants located in Al-Wajh, Umluj, Haql and Duba over 90 days in batch tanks with ion-imprinted polymeric sorbents prepared by ion ion-imprinting technology The samples will be taken from feeding seawater along with the desalination plants of El Wajh, Umluj and Haql The aqueous concentration and the adsorbed mass of uranium and some other metals in the brine will be determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry And the use of water adsorption modeling to simulate the speciation and uptake of these ions under experimental conditions |
