TAHA A KHALAF (Member, IEEE) received the BSc and MSc degrees in electrical engineering from Assiut University, Assiut, Egypt, in 2000 and
2004, respectively, and the PhD degree from Iowa State University, Ames, IA, USA, in May 2011 He is currently an Associate Professor with the
Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Tabuk His major research interests include wireless communications, cooperative communications, network coding, cognitive radio, and physical layer security He received ECEB Washington DC grant 2006-2010 He also received excellence awards during his study from Mobinil, Six October University, and the Egyptian Syndicate of Engineers

| Joint Decoding Schemes for Wireless Relay Networks with Multiple Antennas | Cooperative relaying is gaining a significant attention in that intermediate relay nodes assist the source nodes in order to enhance the overall network efficiency In wireless relay network, the relay node forwards the data received from the sources to the destination In this proposal, we plan to design optimal decoding schemes for three models of the wireless relay network that is composed single sources, single relay, and single destination The three models differ in number of antennas available at each node In order to get the optimal performance and reduce the complexity of the decoding scheme, three schemes are jointly used to retrieve the data sent from the source These three schemes are maximum a posterior decoding, Alamouti combining, and maximum ratio combining We plan to derive a closed form expression for upper bound on the word error probability The closed form expression of the upper bound can be used to determine the optimal position of the relay node in each case |
