The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is responsible for teaching and training
undergraduate medical students during the clinical phase in both the theoretical and
practical aspects of obstetrics and gynecology. This includes female reproductive
physiology, gynecological disorders, antenatal care, labor and delivery, as well as
maternal, fetal, and neonatal health.
Teaching and clinical training are conducted in integrated educational settings, including
lecture halls, outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, operating theaters, emergency
department and labor and delivery rooms. The department emphasizes the
development of clinical skills, evidence-based clinical decision-making, adherence to
professional ethics, and respect for patient privacy.
The department promotes the integration of education and patient care by involving
students, under direct academic supervision, in history taking, physical examination,
and participation in patient management, ensuring high standards of quality and patient
safety.
In addition to its educational role, the department provides advanced clinical services in
obstetrics and gynecology, infertility, and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, while
actively supporting research activities and community service.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology delivers its educational programs as part of the integrated medical curriculum, covering core aspects of obstetrics and gynecology, including gynecological disorders, pregnancy and childbirth care, and women’s health across the lifespan.
The programs integrate theoretical teaching with supervised clinical training in outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, labor and delivery units, Clinical skill lab and operating theaters, utilizing interactive teaching methods, case-based learning, simulation, and problem-based learning.
The curriculum emphasizes the development of clinical competencies, evidence-based clinical decision-making, professional patient communication, and adherence to ethical standards and patient safety principles.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology continues to achieve notable accomplishments in education and scientific research. Recently, the department has published peer-reviewed research articles in specialized journals in obstetrics and gynecology, women’s health, and medical education.
