The English Language Institute at the University of Tabuk was established in the academic year 1434/1435 AH. It was initially founded under the name The English Language Center at the University of Tabuk, serving as a specialized nucleus for teaching the English language, developing the linguistic skills of the University’s students and staff, and supporting the University’s colleges in enhancing linguistic and academic proficiency.
Since its establishment, the Center has played an active role in the field of English language education by offering specialized programs and training courses, participating in local and international programs, contributing to translation services, preparing candidates for international examinations such as TOEFL and IELTS, and implementing professional development courses for teachers. Among the most notable of these are English language teacher preparation programs, including CELTA.
On 11/9/1440 AH, the Interim Committee assigned to exercise the powers of the Higher Education Council approved the establishment of the Language Teaching Institute at the University of Tabuk, which is currently known as the English Language Institute. This change reflects institutional expansion and increases academic specialization in the field of language education.
The Institute currently comprises the English Language Skills Department and the Foreign Language Teaching Department, and it continues to fulfill its mission of providing high-quality language education in accordance with best academic practices. The English Language Institute at the University of Tabuk held a training course entitled “Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Its Role in Teaching the English Language” as part of the Professional Development Week activities organized by the Institute for its staff. The course aimed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and its applications in the context of English language teaching, with the goal of enhancing teaching skills and classroom interaction.
The course addressed a range of scientific and psychological strategies that help teachers understand students’ linguistic and behavioral patterns and improve effective communication within the classroom. It also formed part of a series of workshops offered by the Institute to develop the professional, research, and pedagogical competencies of faculty members, contributing to the enhancement of educational standards and ensuring the quality of learning outcomes in line with the strategic plan of the University of Tabuk and the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming is considered a cognitive approach that integrates an understanding of language and behavior to develop communication strategies, particularly in teaching foreign languages such as English, thereby contributing to the creation of a more interactive and motivating learning environment for students.
