The tremendous progress achieved in the field of electronic services worldwide and the rapid development of the information technology sector are today among the most important factors contributing to the development of the educational process and scientific research. They play a major role in the establishment of educational institutions at the university level and are the main indicator of the progress of these institutions and their ability to achieve their goals. In recent years, Saudi universities have occupied a prominent position in information technology by introducing elements of this technology into their educational curricula, as well as the accompanying qualification of national cadres in various electronic fields to keep pace with the new and successive methods developed globally in the fields of technology. Tabuk University, as part of the higher education system in the Kingdom, and keen to occupy a prominent position among universities, and to excel in its educational and research programs in all scientific fields, it was necessary for it to provide information technology services to develop the capabilities of its affiliates, including faculty members, administrators, technicians, and male and female students in the field of computers, to inform them of the latest information and scientific research, and to communicate via electronic services. Therefore, the university administration decided to establish a unit at the university called (Information Technology Unit) linked to the university vice president and oversee all electronic work, information, and services that it will provide to university affiliates. The Deanship of Information Technology began its work as a unit by decision of His Excellency the University President No. (3/Q/428) dated (1/12/1428 AH) with the aim of providing services Technology and electronics, and the provision of electronic systems for all sectors and members of the university. The Deanship of Information Technology aims to support the university's progress by automating academic and administrative work, making computers the backbone of the university's academic and administrative system.
Over four years, steps have accelerated toward achieving the desired goal with every building block of Tabuk University's achievement. This was translated into the approval of the esteemed Higher Education Council, pursuant to Resolution No. (19/63/1432 AH), taken at its session No. (63) held on Sunday (24/3/1432 AH), to transform the unit into a deanship to fulfill its role—God willing—in a manner commensurate with Tabuk University's status among the Kingdom's universities. After reviewing the letter of His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Council of University Affairs No. 4500305366, dated 12/3/1445 AH, which includes notification of the Council of University Affairs Resolution No. (2/61/54), dated 14/2/1445 AH, regarding the restructuring of the university.
