The General Administration of Medical Services at the University of Tabuk Marks World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2026
On the occasion of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, observed annually on June 15, the General Administration of Medical Services at the University of Tabuk launched an awareness campaign aimed at promoting public understanding of the rights of older persons and emphasizing the importance of respecting, protecting, and safeguarding them from all forms of abuse and neglect.
The campaign highlighted the various forms of elder abuse, including physical abuse, psychological or verbal abuse, financial exploitation, neglect, and social isolation or discrimination. It also emphasized key measures that contribute to protecting older adults, such as providing appropriate healthcare and psychological support, strengthening family and social connections, reporting cases of abuse, and supporting their independence while respecting their decisions.
The General Administration of Medical Services affirmed that older persons represent a valuable human and social asset, and that caring for and respecting them is a shared responsibility that requires the collective efforts of families, communities, and institutions. Such efforts help ensure a safe, dignified, and supportive environment that recognizes their lifelong contributions to society.
This participation reflects the University of Tabuk’s commitment to promoting health and social awareness and supporting initiatives that foster the values of respect, compassion, and social solidarity, ultimately enhancing the quality of life and well-being of older adults.
