Objectives

1) Qualify distinguished graduates equipped with modern knowledge and skills in plant biology fields that meet the needs of local mega projects and other related industrial sectors to contribute to the Kingdom's Vision 2030 goal of lowering the unemployment rate.

2) Train students in modern plant science and agricultural management techniques and twenty-first-century skills related to horticultural crop production in open-field and enclosed environments through curricular and extracurricular courses and activities.

3) Offer an integrative academic environment for learning that focuses on enhancing knowledge, skills, and creativity and fosters life-long learning.

4) Develop community partnerships to apply scientific knowledge in raising societal awareness about the critical role that plant preservation plays in attaining environmental sustainability.

5) Strengthening student scientific research and innovation skills in fields of plant biology to support the educational process and contribute to solving community issues.

Program Learning Outcomes:

Knowledge and Understanding:

  • K1 Illustrate a thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of plant biology, pathology, pests, and the sciences related to water and soil, emphasizing plant physiology, growth, and development in intensive horticultural crop production systems. 

  • K2 Illustrate a thorough knowledge of the most advanced systems for lighting, automated controls, and remote monitoring, as well as computational approaches to problem-solving and analysis of intensive horticultural crop management. 

Skills:

  • S1 Employ field, greenhouse, and laboratory techniques to manage the growth and productivity of horticultural crops.

  • S2 Use appropriate statistical methods and computer packages in the analysis and interpretation of scientific data. 

  • S3 Apply acquired knowledge in assessing the impact and effectiveness of management systems and various techniques and practices on intensive horticultural crop production. 

  • S4 Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, particularly concerning critical evaluation of scientific issues related to plant sciences and agriculture techniques. 

  • S5 Select and comprehend literature relevant to plant sciences and technologies from databases and other online resources for accessing works on a particular topic and critically evaluating their scientific content and potential applications in horticultural crop production systems. 

  • S6 Resolve problems concerning local and global challenges such as food security, climate change, and biodiversity preservation by applying plant sciences and technologies.

Program Plan

The curriculum consists of a total of 48 courses, equivalent to 135 credit hours, distributed as follows:

1. Institutional Requirements (General University Requirements)

  • Mandatory Requirements: 10 courses (26 credit hours), representing 19.3% of the total program.
  • Elective Requirements: 5 courses (13 credit hours), representing 9.6% of the total program.
  • Total: 39 credit hours (28.26% of the program).

2. College Requirements

  • Mandatory Requirements: 6 courses (15 credit hours), representing 11.1% of the total program.
  • Elective Requirements: None.

3. Major Requirements (Core Program)

  • Mandatory Requirements: 22 courses (66 credit hours), representing 48.9% of the total program.
  • Elective Requirements: 3 courses (9 credit hours), representing 6.7% of the total program.
  • Total: 75 credit hours (55.5% of the program).

4. Practical and Applied Components
