As part of its community engagement and social responsibility initiatives, the Biology Department at the College of Science organized an awareness event on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, to mark World Breast Cancer Day.
The event aimed to raise awareness about the disease, correct misconceptions regarding its causes and symptoms, and emphasize the importance of prevention and early detection as essential steps in effective treatment and recovery.
The event featured several interactive awareness sections, each highlighting key aspects related to breast cancer prevention and health education:
Healthy Nutrition Section:
This section hosted a nutrition specialist who discussed the connection between healthy eating habits and reducing the risk of breast cancer. Informative brochures were distributed, focusing on balanced diets and healthy lifestyles. Attendees also enjoyed samples of nutritious foods, including natural juices, salads, and whole grains.
Awareness Section:
This section showcased informational displays illustrating the significance of early detection and its impact on increasing recovery rates. It also explained risk factors such as age, genetics, and lifestyle. Visitors received educational brochures and pamphlets to enhance their understanding of the topic.
Self-Examination Section:
This section provided comprehensive information on symptoms and warning signs that warrant medical attention. Instructional videos and visual guides were displayed, and students participated in a hands-on self-examination demonstration under the supervision of a specialized nurse from Ohod Hospital in Medina. The section also included an overview of available treatment options.
The event witnessed a notable turnout from female students of the College of Science, faculty members from various university colleges, and members of the local community.
It concluded with the gifting of flower bouquets carrying motivational messages, symbolizing hope and support. Attendees expressed their appreciation for the event’s informative and engaging approach in promoting health awareness and empowerment.
